About three weeks ago, I was on Pinterest, and I stumbled across a video about how to grow an avocado tree from an avocado pit. It looked easy, so I decided to give it a try.
First, I gathered up a few avocado pits I had from an avocado and tuna fish sandwich the day before.
Then I peeled the skin off each pit.
Next, I got a paper towel for each pit and made them very damp. Then I wrapped the paper towel around each pit.
Once they were all wrapped, I placed each pit in a ziplock bag and sealed them tight.
Then, I taped each bag to my sliding door. At this point in the planting process the avocado pits don’t need sunlight. But I still hung them up just so I wouldn’t forget about them and they’d be near my other plants.
Fast forward to 2 and a half weeks later and I checked on my avocado pits.
One pit had finally cracked and sprouted a root! I was beyond excited. It was then time to place it in a full vase of water.
At first I used tooth picks to support my pit, but the tooth pics just ended up sliding, causing the pit to sink to the bottom of the vase. I then tried a rubber band, and plastic wrap.
About three days later I checked on my other avocado pits. One avocado pit has also opened and sprouted a root. The last pit had shown no growth so I figured it was a dud.
And there ya go, two successful avocado pits have sprouted and have successfully been transferred into water. Stayed tuned for more updates on my planting this season. I will be giving more updates in the coming weeks!
It is time again for another blog post round up! The following are a list of recent blog posts that were not only popular but also a favorite to myself and many of my readers.
My Kitchen Reveal!
In late March, my husband and I moved to our new apartment right at the beginning of the Corona virus Pandemic. It was crazy, quick and overwhelming. Regardless of how we got here, we absolutely love our new home. Check out my kitchen reveal post to see how I decorated our kitchen.
New Edition to the Family!
As many of you know, we did add a new edition to our family this year, and his name is Rocky. He is a gray, long haired domestic tabby. He is super smart, hilarious, and sassy. We love him so much and are so glad we adopted him.
Deep Fried Pickles Recipe
Since graduating from college, I have found myself in the kitchen more often. Part of this is because I have more time to cook, and it is also because I no longer have the luxury of eating meals at the dining hall. Check out my Deep Fried Pickles recipe, and other recipes I will be sharing this month.
What’s My Why?
What’s my why? This is a question that many influencers ask themselves. What’s the reason I write a blog? What’s the reason I advocate for this important cause? What’s the reason I do what I do every single day? This blog post talks all about why I do what I do.
Another Plants Update
This past summer was the first summer I had a balcony. I took full advantage of this balcony by growing many different plants. Check out my different blog posts this summer of my progress and fails in growing plants.
It’s Been 19 Years Since the World Changed
It has been 19 years since 9/11 happened. As I mentioned in this blog post, it is one of the first tragic terrorist attacks that I can recall in my life time. In this post I discuss my memories of that fateful day.
Happy Fall Ya’ll
Having holidays in a new apartment, means I get to try some new decorating ideas. For example, I have never had my own fireplace that I have been able to decorate. But this year, I plan to decorate it for every season. Check out this post to see how I decorated for fall.
Expanding Our Family… What’s Next for Us
This unexpectedly, was a super popular post. This was the post where I shared our thoughts on expanding our family. I also share a tentative 2 year plan as we prepare for parenthood.
Taco Baked Potato Recipe
I am such a huge fan of potatoes and tacos. So I thought, why not combine the two? In this post I share my recipe of a Taco Baked Potato.
Christmas Decorating 2020
Yes, I know… another decorating post. But I can’t help it, I love decorating and home decor. Check out this post to see how I decorated this year for Christmas.
It’s the most wonderful time of the year! This year has been quite crazy, I can’t stress that enough. So, I thought my home was in need of a little Christmas cheer. Many times I try to wait until after my anniversary (mid November) to decorate my home for Christmas. But this year, I decided to go ahead and decorate my home a little early. With a new apartment, a fireplace, and some extra time off… I figured why not.
This year I was able to put 3 stockings over my new fireplace. One stocking is for my husband, one for myself and one for my kitty Rocky. My hubby and I are considering exchanging stockings this year, since we were able to hang our stockings.
This right here is one of my favorite Christmas decorations. It is a hand made, crocheted nativity scene that was gifted to us for our wedding. We absolutely love it!
My Santa Clause clothes line is an antique, and was passed down to me from my Grandma. While growing up my Grandma hung a normal little clothes line in her window over her kitchen sink. But during the holidays, she hung this Santa Clause one in her window. I love this unique Christmas decoration. It is one of my favorites.
I would say my Christmas decorations are coming along, but I’m not quite finished yet. I still have a few finishing touches I would like to add. Have you decorated for Christmas yet?
I just love Fall! The changing colors in the leaves, the smell of pumpkin, and apples, the crisp air in the mornings… it’s all my favorite.
Something I look forward to each year is decorating for fall. Part of the reason I decorate is because it makes me happy and I love doing it, and the other reason is because I have some decorations left over from my fall wedding four years go. These pumpkins on my entertainment center for example were some of my wedding decorations.
This leaf garland I recently bought from Hobby Lobby, and I absolutely love it! It fits perfectly over my fireplace.
This centerpiece is a combination of new and old decorations. The bouquet for example is actually my wedding bouquet. The pumpkin, gourds and straw are something I bought this year.
Thanks for checking out my fun fall decorations! It has been so exciting to be able to decorate my new living room for fall!
Hello friends! If you’ve been following me for awhile, it’s a safe bet that you’ve seen pretty much every part of my apartment since I moved in March. You’ve probably even seen parts of my balcony since I’ve shown you my many plants. However, I haven’t yet done a balcony reveal. So, without further or do, I welcome you to my balcony.
My balcony is full of plants, a lawn chair, a bike and storage. I love our balcony, as it is spacious and welcoming.
I can imagine I will be storing much of the items on my balcony, this winter. But for now, I am going to enjoy my current balcony set up.
Our balcony has a great view of the other buildings in our complex as well as the wide open sky. it’s so fun to see storms roll in, and beautiful sunrises early in the morning.
Recently, we bought a storage unit/bench we are able to store our pots and planting through the winter.
Last but not least, our balcony is accompanied by our large slider door. This door allows for gorgeous natural lighting into our living room and a wonderful view of our plants from the inside.
Thank you so much for checking out my balcony reveal! I only have two places in my home you haven’t seen… can you guess what room I’ll show you next?
I know it has been a long while since my last room reveal… but I finally have my kitchen ready for its’ big reveal! Part of the reason it has taken me so long to complete my kitchen is 1) I returned back to work full time, so I don’t have nearly as much time on my hands as I did during quarantine and 2) the kitchen is something that can get super messy super quickly. Therefore, I didn’t want to take pictures and reveal it to you, until it was clean, organized and perfect. So, without further or do, here is my kitchen!
This kitchen is actually the largest I’ve ever had. It’s not huge by any means, but it definitely has more space to walk around, as well as more counter space to cook and create meals.
The cabinets are narrower than I expected when moving in, but I honestly appreciate it because it helps me to stay downsized in my kitchen items, instead of having a cluttered kitchen.
I really appreciate having counter space on both sides of the oven. It helps me to be able to place dishes on either side when trying to cook.
I also appreciate a larger fridge. In our other apartments, our fridges were a lot smaller.
Lastly, I love the openness of the kitchen. I love that there is a bar/counter on the living room side that is an additional place to sit and eat. I also love being able to see into the living room from the kitchen. The set up of this apartment is truly ideal for a young couple, who occasionally has company over.
Well that’s my kitchen! It’s cute and not too clutter. It’s open and and has a clean home style feel. Let me know what you think in the comments! ⬇️⬇️⬇️
Hello Friends! Last weekend, I did something pretty cool. My husband and I bought a new dining room table from Walmart. It took us most of Sunday to put it together, but we finally did it! I’m super excited for you to see my dining room!
One of the first things we did after putting together the table and chairs, was putting together our bulletin board. For awhile now I have had a bulletin board, and a dry erase calendar. They both take up quite a bit of space on the wall, so I thought… why not combine them! This was a fun little DIY project I did by using materials I already had, and making it work for our family.
I am so impressed with how our dining room turned out, and how our apartment is coming together beautifully! I simply can’t wait to have Sunday morning breakfast and holiday meals in our new dining room. What room would you like to see next? Kitchen? Laundry Room? Balcony? Let me know! 💕
My living room is probably my favorite place in the apartment, at the moment. I absolutely love the layout, the sliding glass door, the natural lighting, and the fireplace! It has been so much fun to be able to decorate this part of our home, as I have been able to add some new decor!
In our previous apartments, I have never had so much natural lighting and never have had luck in growing plants. However, since this whole quarantine business, I have an abundance of time and natural lighting for my precious plant babies. Everyday I place my plants out on my balcony to get some sun light, and every evening I bring them in before they get cold. If it’s too cold during the day, I set them near the sliding glass door window to get their sun light. Having a sliding glass door off the livingroom has really been a blessing.
As of right now we are still using my trunk as a table, but I am hoping once the pandemic has passed, we can purchase a new coffee table (I’ll keep you posted :D) We recently purchased our two maps of NYC and Paris from Target. They were on clearance for $8! What a great deal!
The fireplace, as I mentioned is one of my favorites! I also love my gorgeous palm tree named Sandy. She adds just the right touch to our home ❤️. One last piece of home decor I truly appreciate is the large cross that we have hung over our fireplace. This was a wedding gift from a dear friend of mine, and it says “Faith, Hope and Love are some good things He gave us… but the greatest of these is Love.”
There you have it! Let me know what you think of my living room by dropping a comment! ⬇️
Tackling my bedroom was actually easier than I thought. I absolutely love the extra space and how it immediately felt like home!
Decorating my bedroom has been super enjoyable. I was able to incorporate some old decor, as well as add a touch of new! I absolutely love the natural lighting, compared to our old home. When we moved we were able to purchase some new lamps from Target, and a comforter from Home Goods. Sadly, our comforter is on back order until this whole virus business is over, so the old comforter will have to do for now. I am also excited I now have room to display some photos of our loved ones in our bedroom.
My tapestry is one of my favorite things in our bedroom. It used to be in our old living room, but I find that it fits better in here. It’s so rustic and tranquil that it almost makes me feel like I am in a peaceful part of the woods.
Well there you have it! I hope you enjoyed my bedroom reveal! What room would you like to see next? Kitchen? Living room? Closets? Let me know!
On March 20th, we moved into our new home. Originally, I didn’t think I would have much time to unpack and organize our new home. But with the stay at home order in place, I have nothing but time at home. I have been diligently organizing and decorating each room until I feel it is complete. I am happy to announce that my bathroom is ready for its’ big reveal! So without further or do… here is my bathroom!
I absolutely love the openness of my bathroom. It is the biggest bathroom we’ve ever had!
I was able to keep some of my old beach themed bathroom decor, as well as add some new pieces. These beach pictures were a dollar store find!
Charles picked out the shower curtain from Target. It has cute raindrops and is absolutely perfect.
The counter space is AMAZING! There’s enough space for the counter not to feel cluttered, but still have our things accessible.
There is so much room with cabinet space, closet space and a medicine cabinet.
Before and after…
There you have it! I hope you enjoyed my bathroom reveal! Keep an eye out for more room reveals! 🙂
There’s just something truly satisfying about organizing and redecorating. This summer since I have had the opportunity to relax and stay home, I have been extremely motivated to organize and redecorate my whole apartment. One of the very first rooms I tackled this summer was my spare room.
My spare room or second bedroom has always kind of been a storage room, but this summer I wanted to turn it into my home office. Before redecorating my home office, I decided not to take any before pictures. It’s not because there wasn’t a huge transformation, but rather I just didn’t feel like showing the whole world my clutter room.
I am very excited about how my office turned out.
I reorganized my desk, put up a bulletin board, and opened up this space to not only make it positive but productive.
I hung twinkle lights under my windowsill and above my desk. I find this calming and comforting. I placed my metal chair and ottoman in the corner for a place to write and blog.
On top of my filing cabinet I have a blessings box. This was a bridal shower gift given to me by my bestie Alli. When Charles and I have something awesome happen, we write it on a card and place it in our blessings box.
This corner still has some storage items. This is where I keep many of my Etsy products as well as just simple storage.
I found this winter painting at an estate sale and absolutely love it! Ya’ll might think I’m crazy for hanging up a winter picture…. but I’m from Michigan and we see snow at least 6 months out of the year.
This cabinet/tv stand I found at a yard sale for $2. I use this to store my books, art supplies, and Etsy inventory.
Thank you all so much for checking out my new home office. I hope you enjoyed it!
